What is Gleemix? Well, it's an experiment of sorts. One that incorporates the wildly popular and award-winning show, Glee, with the production talents of Sickboy, a Washington, DC based producer. What's fascinating is not just the content of this EP, but also the context. Think about it, these are remixes of songs that were remade for a TV show! Sounds pretty interesting, right?
It is. Gleemix takes six songs from the Glee Soundtrack, and transforms them into an unexpectedly gratifying experience. Ranging from Hip Hop to Techno, Dubstep to House, fast to slow, dark to light, Gleemix has something for everyone. Sickboy uses everything from the tiniest shard of sound, to large musical phrases, and combines it with his own skills to create something that is not just new, but also extraordinary. Born under a solar eclipse, Sickboy has spent a lifetime trying to harness the power of the sun. His productions are as unique and wondrous as the Aurora Borealis, his sound as vast as space itself. A cosmic child, Sickboy was drawn to the primal sound of the drum and the bass. After existing on earth for ten planetary revolutions he found himself, with drumsticks in hand, perfecting his command of the beat. Five additonal trips around the sun would bring Sickboy the gift of vinyl which rotated like the moons of Mars on his two turntables. Like light across the galaxy Sickboy's skill developed in a flash and by 15 he began booking gigs at clubs he couldn't himself get into. For the next three years, at raves indoor and out, he saw his star rise in the darkness of Upstate New York nights. The solar winds of change blew strong in 2001 and Sickboy arrived in Washington, DC to pursue an undergraduate degree in Audio Technology at American University. While there, he continued to play out at clubs and collaborate with like-minded cosmic philosophers sharing in the release of two DJ mixes, two full length albums, and several Hip Hop mix tapes. It was also during this time, with the stars in perfect alignment, that Sickboy's true passion was revealed to him--music production. Producing tracks as diverse as the the many rings of Saturn, Sickboy has since been following the will of the stars to fullfill his destiny to become a revered producer and DJ.
